The new generation ‘DSD’ series from KAESER KOMPRESSOREN

Compressed air users have always benefited from cost-effective and reliable compressed air production with KAESER’s DSD series rotary screw compressors. Redesigned and featuring the very latest technology, this proven product range has been further extended to include four new models: the DSD 142, 172, 202 and 238.

KAESER’s optimised DSD series rotary screw compressors are suitable for air deliveries from 13 to 24 m³/min (at 7.5 bar) and, like their predecessors, offer all of the advantages that modern compressed air technology has to offer: They are highly energy efficient, require minimal maintenance, provide outstanding reliability and are exceptionally quiet. However, redesigned component layout and the use of new materials have enabled the depth of these versatile units to be reduced by more than 200 mm. Moreover, each compressor system features KAESER’s proven modular concept and provides significant energy savings:
1. All DSDX units feature a specially designed large, low speed SIGMA PROFILE airend (1500 rpm ), which uses 15% less energy compared to conventional designs.
2. KAESER rotary screw airends are powered by EU-eff1-rated* drive motors for maximum performance and reliability.
3. KAESER’s highly efficient 1:1 drive design eliminates the transmission losses associated with gear or V-belt driven systems, as the motor directly drives the airend.
4. The internal PC-based SIGMA CONTROL compressor controller has five pre-programmed control options that enable compressor performance to be precisely matched to actual air demand.
DSD units are also equipped with a highly effective cooling system, which uses an innovative radial fan that draws cool ambient air in through the cooler. The system prevents the cooling air from being pre-warmed and, as a result, optimises the cooling effect. This in turn enables low compressed air discharge temperatures and significantly increases the efficiency and reliability of downstream compressed air treatment components, such as dryers and filters. Sound emissions are also considerably reduced.
In addition to the standard versions, DSD series compressors are also available with an integrated refrigeration dryer that allows production and drying of compressed air in a single compact unit. The compressor and dryer are both completely separate, independently functioning modules. This design means that each can be operated individually making it possible to isolate and service the dryer whilst the compressor is operating and prevents exposure of the dryer to any heat from the compressor unit. As the use of variable speed drive has significant advantages for certain applications, all DSD models, including those with the refrigeration dryer module, are available with Kaeser’s SIGMA FREQUENCY CONTROL (SFC).
Furthermore, the SIGMA CONTROL’s capabilities are not just restricted to the compressor unit, as it can also monitor and automatically manage individual compressed air systems, such as the dryer and/or frequency control module, and enables the compressor package to be remotely accessed via a modem (Teleservice). Interfaces are also provided as standard for quick and easy connection to master control systems and data networks.
